How to sections for i930 i920 Ringtones, wallpapers, games, and Videos

Here is how you load ringtones into the i930 and i920 Smart phones by Iden/Sprint

Ok so you have the Motorola Sprint Nextel i920 i930 smart phone(If not click here)!  Ringtones are done easy and free with this model because it is a windows smart phone.

The software & cables already came with your phone.  If for some reason you don't have a cable or need one click here

If you need the software it is called active sync.  Here is a link to it on the microsoft website here. (If you haven't already installed it, don't install it yet).  It is very hard to find so cherish this link.  Even if you have the active sync installed or the cd that came with it it might be good to check and see if it has an update.  They are always releasing updates. Prior to installing it,  make sure you have a profile already set up with windows.  To check, go to the start menu ->control panel -> classic view -> Mail -> show profile.  If you have no profiles set up there then you can try adding one from there.   I never have luck using the add feature but who know it has to be there for a reason.  What I do is open outlook express.  It is ussually plastered everywhere on your computer or at least somewhere in your start menu.  It's icon is a white and blue envelope. It's path is normally C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe if you want to browse for it.  It will ask you to set it up.  Go ahead and fill out everything making up stuff as you go along.  It really doesn't hurt if you get it wrong.  It will ask you pop and smpt settings just put me.me.com it will take that.  Then when you are done it will error out.  That is fine your only creating a profile and not setting up a mail account.   Close outlook and go back and see if you have a profile set up.  If not restart the computer.  Now if you have a profile go ahead and install the active sync program.

After you install it you should now see a new icon in your task bar it is a grey or green little circle.  Green when your phone is plugged in an a grey when your phone is unplugged.  It looks like this .  Plug in your phone if it is not already.  When the little arrows stop spinning double click it.  A little window will open.  If it doesn't go green when you plug in the phone this is normal welcome to plug and play by Microsoft!  Restart both the phone and computer and it should work. If not right click the little icon and choose connection settings.  Then check allow usb connections.  If that doesn't work it could actually be your firewall but I would try this usb utility first.

Choose Explore in the top center.

It will take a few secs and open up a new window.

double click on the my smartphone icon.

(if the screen is blank right click the screen and choose refresh keep doing this until it pops up)

Double click on the storage icon.

Double click application data.

Double click sounds.

Now just drag or cut and paste any wav or midi ringtone over to the open sounds window above.

Here is a wav file to test  here is a midi file

I would suggest chopping down the ringtones before loading them.  Your phone doesn't ring longer than 30 secs so why do you need a ringtone to last longer.  Your phone is mono so why have a stereo wav or midi.  I have instructions here on how to convert and chop files.

To select a ringtone, navigate to 'Start', 'Settings', 'Notifications' and choose the file you have copied to your device as the ring sound.

Tip: You can use sounds in the .wma (window media) file format as ring tones only; you cannot use .wma files for notifications or reminders.

People ask me where do you get songs from.  Well wav format files are everywhere (www.nextpimp.com).  Search using the google box above for the name and put wav anywhere in it.  the other is my favorite search engine webcrawler http://msxml.webcrawler.com/info.wbcrwl.toolbar/search/advanced/audio.htm? It will search for music files on peoples websites.

Another would be to use a legal service like napster (download as many songs as you want for a flat monthly fee) or tune genie ($.99 a song) after you get in click search at the top.

Or the not so legal peer to peer file sharing services like limewire shareaza or kaza

The i920/i930 java application loader

The i930 and i920 is a smart phone by heart and doesn't need this application to load all software.  The smart phone software will normally install from your computer with the phone in the sync cradle.

This application loader is used to load JAVA applications (not smart phone applications) like the calculator, Opera browser , GPS programs or games.

Here it is.  It does require the active sync software from above.  You must install it and then use this.

../files_files/harrythompson i930 java loader.exe

If the security certificate never pops up like below click here to manually install it.

After installing it leave the user and password blank.

If you get a server/authentication error close the jal program  run this  be sure to not change the destination folder for the hosts file.  If it asks to override a file say yes.

Then run this program.  It should install with regedit or registry editor and not open in explorer or notepad.  A good place to get java aps is www.snazzie.com the menu is to the left choose i860 or i870 games.

I920/I930 Wallpapers

1 Connect the Smartphone to your desktop computer. (you must install active sync above in ringtone section)

2 On your desktop computer, copy the image file you want. The file format must be .gif, .jpg, or .bmp.

3 In ActiveSync on your desktop computer, click Explore and then double-click My Smartphone.

4 Double-click Storage, double-click Application data, double-click Home.

5 Paste the image file into the Home folder.

Note: Before you open ActiveSync to paste the image file, make sure that the Smartphone is connected to your desktop computer by a USB connection.

For best results, use images with a 176 x 200 screen resolution to fit on the screen.  (I like irfanview to resize. it works well and it is free) Here is a bit more on irfanview.

You can use this image for your Home screen.

Did you know there is a back up option on active sync?

I highly suggest using it.

If you don't have a back and your software become corrupt you will loose all data.

Software updates?

Yes, almost all electronics these days needs software updates.  Your phone is no different.  The i930 has had several updates since it was released.  Each update fixes bugs and problems phone with the phone like powering down issues and locking up.  You will not be notified when you need one.  Sprint will let you know if you complain.  A service center will charge you $15 to perform the update for you.  You normally can do your own software updates on Sprint Nextel phones but, the i930 requires a special flash cable (Part number NNTN6367A) The cable retails for $65.  I can get it and save you $5 if you don't mind waiting a few days because I will order it, I do not stock it.

$60  for the cable and $2.22 to ship (ussually 3 to 4 days)

Then ONLY and ONLY after you have the FLASH CABLE and Active sync (above) installed and working,  download the latest software pack here:  upgrade to version R0B.00.06/R0C.00.05

High-quality digital media files can require a large amount of storage space. To minimize file size, digital media files are often compressed by using software called a codec (short for compressor/decompressor). To play the file, it must be decompressed by using the same codec that compressed the file. You can determine
which codecs a file uses by checking its file properties (select Menu, and then select Properties or from your computer right click it and choose properties) Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Smartphone can play files that have been compressed by using any of the following audio and video codecs:

 Audio Codecs

Microsoft Windows Media Audio codec versions 1.0, 2.0, 7, 8, and 9. Although Windows Media Player for Smartphone supports all the variants of the Windows Media Audio 9 codec (including the Windows Media Audio 9, Windows Media Audio 9 Professional, Windows Media Audio 9 Voice, and Windows Media Audio 9 Lossless codecs),

Video Codecs
Microsoft Windows Media Video codec versions 7, 8, and 9. Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 Image codec versions 1.0 and 2.0. Microsoft MPEG-4 codec version 2.0 and 3.0. ISO MPEG-4 video codec version 1.0.

the following variants are only partially supported:
Windows Media Audio 9 Professional codec. Multiple channels are combined into a
stereo mix during playback. Depending upon the audio playback capabilities of your
Smartphone, content with an audio sampling rate higher than 48 kilohertz (KHz) might
be played as 48 KHz.
Windows Media Audio 9 Lossless codec. Depending upon the audio playback
capabilities of your Smartphone, content with an audio sampling rate higher than 48
KHz might be played as 48 KHz.
Note: Windows Media Player 10 Mobile for Smartphone does not support any version of the Windows Media Video Screen codec.

With all that said here is what I do to convert your videos to you i930:

Thats it.  You have just created a video playable on your phone.  Use the sd card to store your video or use active sync (above like ringtones) and drop and drag it in.

Here is the clip above that I chopped out of the movie Johnny Dangerously (right click and save as)

If you want to rip a movie from a DVD

and you have a DVD drive in your computer see here

If you are looking for different color face plates let me know I can get them.

Go here let me know the part numbers and I will give you a price.  I will normally have it in in a few days.

Well people often ask how can they help me out with out sending money?  Well a really good way to help me is by linking your site to my site.  Now I am not saying copy my site word for word.. That is not cool!  Put a link on your site that says something to the effect cool place to get free Nextel ringtones..  The more links to my site the higher it ranks on Google.   The easier it is for others to find it amongst all those bogus free ringtone sites.

You can email me if you still have problems please let me know the error and when you get it.  Due to the volume of email, I will usually answer them with in 2 days.  Please be nice and keep in mind I am doing this for free.  Very important don't tell me you are going to donate if I help you.  It will not make me help you any better.  I already know 99% don't come through.  Don't use asap or answer me now. Also I only need 1 email.  If it get returned to you or if I don't get back to you in 3 days then email me again.

Remove the <nospam> part to email me

Keep me going!

Another thing.  Any of you that have personal websites or use forums please post a link to my site with what ever search phrase you used to get to me.  If you search free Nextel ringtones the top 10 sites are junk sites that want you to pay and then don't even support Nextel even though they say Nextel.  The more links that google, yahoo, and msn find for my site the higher it is on the list.  Google and the other search engines use a simple scale to output your search.  1st the top 3 are those who pay the most for your click  then those with the most sites referring to them go down in order. So more forums, chartrooms, and websites the higher I am on the list.  The easier people can find a real site and not get suckered by someone trying to steal their money.

Data cable to load ringtones, wallpapers, and games in Nextel phones for free.

Your phone is busy but you don't know what it is doing?  That error means you have a suspended java ap or java game running.  Go to menu java aps then suspended aps and close all aps.
